Japan-for-U.S. CD reissue on Andante (a currently inactive division of Varèse Sarabande!), which was simultaneously released on the parent label as well, with a different catalog number (VCD 47211), and seems to be the sole example of an aborted effort to launch a series of CD classical releases under a separate imprint, instead of under the imprint of the parent label, which was better known for soundtrack and score releases. (According to the Andante label page, it has since become apparent that at least one soundtrack/score CD release ["Kings Row"] appeared on both Andante and Varèse Sarabande, as well.)
Tracks 1 to 4 were previously issued in 1983 on Andante AD 72406, while Track 5 was previously issued the same year on Andante AD 72402.
The release features a series of American neo-classical works, all performed by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Keith Clark , and the packaging includes an eight-page booklet with detailed liner notes about the included works and composers, a brief biography of the soloists for the "Capricorn Concerto," and a brief technical note concerning the recording on the interior pages; and color front and back covers, the former featuring a reproduction of "Hailstorm," a painting by Thomas Hart Benton, along with album contents; and the latter featuring a brief biography of both the conductor and the orchestra, as well as a note thanking Ernst Jechart Productions, the benefactor of the Pacific Symphony American Music Series.
Alternate titles for Track 3: "Music For Radio" or "Prairie Journal."
The packaging also notes that the included recording of "Saga Of The Prairies" was the only available one -- at least, at the time! -- and that the "Overture -- From The Third Orchestral Set" was a world premiere recording at the time, as well. Also, the title is given as "American Composers: Music Of Barber, Copland And Ives" on the back of the inlay card, but as "Music Of Barber, Copland, Ives" on the spine -- the former is more descriptive, and since the latter was probably abbreviated in order to fit on the spine, the former has been used as the official title as per [g3.1.3.]. Finally, the catalog number for this release as provided in the packaging doesn't match the number in the matrix area/mirror band on the CD [as listed in the Barcodes & Identifiers section!], for whatever reason ...)

Composed By Aaron CoplandConductor Keith ClarkEnsemble Pacific Symphony Orchestra. An Outdoor Overture. This disc is apparently quite hard to find. It's main claim to fame is that it was the first and only recording of David Gray Porter's of the Charles Ives Society first reconstruction of an Overture to Ives' Third Orchestral Set. This seems to be no lost masterpiece and apparently Porter asked that the work be withdrawn after this recording was made. Annotation last modified on 2015-08-18 14:36 UTC. Album 1992 7 Songs. Pacific Symphony is a symphony orchestra located in Orange County, California. The orchestra was founded in 1979 by Keith Clark, a former student and assistant conductor of Roger Wagner at the Los Angeles Master Chorale and principal guest conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, in his Fullerton, California home's kitchen with a grant of 2,000 and some phone calls to local musicians.
