Utterly classic. I would love to have been around for this track's release in Boston, as this was very likely the recorded peak of Boston's disco scene. Back before Arthur Baker relocated to New York, he produced several disco, modern soul, and even rap tracks. One of his projects North End, named after Boston's old Italian neighborhood, released only two records, and this first one I would argue is the better of the two. A beautiful, lush, and uplifting positive disco cut, it's also mixed by two of Boston's most important DJs of the time, Danae Jacovidis and John "T.C." Luongo. Luongo left town and went onto scores of classic dance and pop projects in the 70s and 80s, and Jacovidis (mixer of "Born To Be Alive" and several Divine tracks) was active in Boston until his death in 2012. Baker has also said that Jimmy Maynard did percussion on this record and that Larry Levan played it at the Garage. One listen to this track and you can see why: driving disco with very strong vocals and percussion, great use of harmonica (really!) and great builds. Russell Presto and Anthony Carbone were also involved with the monster Boston boogie piece "Let Me Show You" by Larry Wu, but Presto was murdered in the early 80s and outside of the North End/Michelle Wallace records, the two have scarcely any record credits. Listening to "Kind Of Life", one can easily see how they might have built an empire. This essential track is not one of the more commonly seen West End titles but well worth it.

DomCasual Wrote "I would love to have been around for this track's release in Boston" ........ I was, many of the very first promo copies of this were distributed by the Boston Record Pool at the 1270 Club, 1270 Boylston St., Boston Ma. Where Danae Jacovidis was the resident dj at the time. Not really sure why I remember this so well, but for obvious reasons and John Luongo's connection with the record pool, we as members of the pool were all asked to give this record as much exposure as possible. One of the only times we picked up our weekly promos outside of the main office. Also one of the of the few times the record pool called for a mandatory meeting of it's members if you were not Dj-ing that night.

Hi DomCasual.... Tony Carbone here.... thank you for the kind words regarding Kind Of Life... as I was the Singer,co writer & co producer on the track I felt that I might tell let you in on my what's happening with me these days.... I have been producing tracks for Curtis @ QUARK Records for some time...as you know they are a dance label... you can check out much of my catalog at Traxsource, Beatport, iTunes and so on...we've also placed some of my music and other Quark Artists in the 2010 film "Michael Jackson Commemorated"... I have been an assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music here in Boston for 26 years and am currently working on new material with various artists from Boston including some of the ladies from JADA former Motown Recording Artists...please see my website... http://www.tonycarbonemusic.weebly.com for more info and music videos etc. My days with Northend were memorable for sure, and I appreciate the use in various films that it has gotten over the years.... I'd also like to suggest that if there are shows that would be interested in having me perform Kind Of Life.... please feel free to contact me @ 508-517-0621 and we can discuss the possibilities.... I do miss my freind Russ and we were on the verge of an Empire along with our other partner Keith Maynard, who came aboard as a talented arranger and deal maker after Arthur went on to do his thing... when Russ died were making deals on Atlantic, Clockwork, Emergency, Virgin, Next Plateau and other labels. Russ's death was not only a personal setback but as you can imagine it really had an impact on our dealings... Not long after that Keith had to return to England for a few years due to immigration issues, and I felt lost working alone... so I opted to continue in different directions , producing music for corporate projects, jingles and teaching... I don't get to see Arthur much these days as he is in London as you know...but we were all around working together at a time when there was a real Music Business to service and I am grateful for that...I miss all of my old friends those who have passed and those who I am able to connect with via facebook... So once again all my best and if you can put the word out that the Original Singer from Northend (me) is available to perform Kind Of Life and let's see where the chips fall... Take care and hope to hear from you soon....Tony
