Info

Where the Streets Have No Name I Can't Take My Eyes off You is a song by English synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys. The song is a medley of covers of U2's Where the Streets Have No Name and Can't Take My Eyes Off You, the 1960s single by Frankie Valli, though in an arrangement informed by the 1982 disco version of the song by Boystown Gang rather than the original. The song accompanied How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously, the third single from their 1990 album, Behaviour, as a double A-side. Music video by Pet Shop Boys performing Where The Streets Have No Name I Can't Take My Eyes Off You 2004 Digital Remaster. The plan is to release How can you expect to be taken seriously, a sharp dig at the aspirations and pomposities of pop stars as the first Pet Shop Boys single of 1991. They drastically remix it in conjunction with British dance duo Brothers In Rhythm and film a video in which they parody a number of stars. Eventually they resolve to release both songs as a double A-side on March 11th, and make a complementary video for Where the streets have no name I cant take my eyes off you. Pet Shop Boys' cover of the U2 song, interpolated with Cant Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli although in an arrangement similar to the Boystown Gang version, prompted U2 to release the following statement: What have we done to deserve this Nevertheless, the cover double-A-sided with the rather ironic How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously peaked at number 4 in the UK singles chart in March 1991. Where the Streets Have No Name I Can't Take My Eyes off YouExtended Mix 2018 Remaster. Directed by Liam Kan. With Chris Lowe, Pet Shop Boys, Neil already implicitly demolished the chest-beating pretensions of any number of allegedly socially concerned rockers in the '80s with How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously, the Pet Shop Boys took a little more direct aim of their own with a one-off single. Lowe adds in plenty of intentionally over-the-top flourishes - synth whooshes descending in the mix, cheering crowd samples, and more - while the horn section that heralds the introduction of the Can't Take My Eyes Off of You is pure showmanship silliness. Although the same length as the 7" Perfect Attitude Mix, this version of “How can you expect to be taken seriously?” Includes the “you gotta have fun” lyrics throughout which I’ve yet to find on cd. Would love to find this “new 7” mix” on cd
