Carried by its almost impossibly infectious eponymous opening track, The Sidewinder helped foreshadow the sounds of boogaloo and soul-jazz with its healthy R&B influence and Latin tinge. While the rest of the album retreats to a more conventional hard bop sound, Morgan's compositions are forward-thinking and universally solid. Sidewinder - Sidewinder 2014. Personally, I truly ENJOY this album. Now I'm curious to hear other related works (Techno Animal, etc). I remember a friend playing it for me in the basement of Liquid Sky. It kinda blew me away at the time. I HAD to buy it then. On recent listening - I still find it engagingly driven, though perhaps not as crazy or "out there" sounding, as I recall - but each track seems to implement it's own "logic" of production/ideas to f-k with whatever combination of loops, noise or drum patterns it's f-ing with.

In some ways it feels more like a series of "production studies" than musical statements... But SO WHAT?! To my "matured ears" it's Still FUN, aggressive, "trippy", engagingly bizarre, and satisfyingly interesting ideas overall - whatever the intention. It was a snapshot of "difference" from the majority of the dance-club dominant sound at the time. I still enjoy the majority of the tracks with some very cool standout moments. It's not quite "dance music" but definitely NOT abstract noise, by any means. It's meticulously studied audio mangling and warpage. If that sounds fun to you - then you probably have "left of center tastes" and this is flatly recommended.

Completely a utterly beat oriented, this is the conception of a ritualistic dub "trance industrial" facet from Justin broaderick and Co. Truly a beast on their own as usual with them.

It is usually not that scrutinized or commented as Techno Animal, probably due to the minimalist aspect and often hardcore "industrial" repetitiveness that may haunt the mindscaping ear, but fact, this is not intended to be really muzak, or an album to pay attention for wizardry tricks or psychedelic twists, as a matter of fact it may not be intended for conventional listening, this is upfront beat oriented maelstrom diving directly into your veins, speaking to your unconscious, triggering involuntary muscle spasms and releasing a pulse after pulse of adrenalin to create a trance by destroying the linear thinking. Music for the body.

Perfect for warming till faintness a power yoga class (as a matter of fact I did it with incredible results).
Strangely it can be easily associated with a shamanic ritual, appetizer for a fire dance, Tantric practice or anything that can be physically extreme.

At least for me it results hypnotic once the body is involved and the mind is bombarded by the permanent burst of tribal beats amidst the haze of acidic sequences, dub deformations and heavy bass lines. Track after track of different encompassing ritual beats calling for a brutal exorcism or releasing the wild magic of the mind.

Out of the context of body music, the work is rather monotonous as said before, and the true effect totally obliterated.

In deep, it is a crazy tribal industrial album, in short, body music, not muzak.
