The Weimar Republic was the federal republic and semi-presidential representative democracy established in 1919 in Germany to replace the German Empire. Germany, and Berlin in particular, was fertile ground for intellectuals, artists, and innovators from many fields during the Weimar Republic years. The social environment was chaotic, and politics were passionate. Between 1918 and 1933 every aspect of Weimar Germany was in a state of flux. It is a great achievement that Weitz has managed to bring all the disparate strands together and to develop a cogent argument that Weimar Germany was so dynamic, so exciting and so suffused with optimism and creativity. Weitz's strength lies in his ability to make the era come alive. This superb book not only finally delivers a satisfying general history of Weimar that has been missing for many years, but, more important, is a remarkable accomplishment in that it covers all the main themes of Weimar Germany, ranging from politics to literature, architecture to economy, cinema to ideology. Originally published in 1933 by the General League of Anti-Communist Publications, Berlin, Germany. An excellent resource for revisionist historians or those just wanting to know about the conditions in Weimar Germany that gave rise to National Socialism and clearly that the Communist revolutionaries had all of Europe as their blood-thirsty 'connexions' to the attacks we see today on national sovereignty and 'white' Christian ethnicity and culture are both obvious and disturbing
