Info

Hurley is the eighth studio album by American rock band Weezer, released on September 10, 2010 by Epitaph Records. The album was produced by Rivers Cuomo and Shawn Everett, and, similar to their previous album Raditude, features songs co-written with songwriters outside of the band. Preceded by the single Memories, Hurley debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200, with over 45,000 units sold in its first week of sales. It might seem impossible, but this album is actually somewhat solid. I can't say it's going to make history in Weezer's discography-maybe for it's cover-but it's certainly a bright spot considering its predecessors were Raditude and Red. Hurley - named after Jorge Garcias beloved Lost character for no particular reason, but anybody with three eponymous albums in an eight-LP career doesnt care much for titles in the first place - is marginally louder and rougher than the clean sheen of Raditude, but not enough to fool anybody into thinking this is a punk rebirth. Well shit, just when it seemed like the final nail in Weezer's career was about to be hammered into the the glossy, fat dude from Lost laden cover of their new album Hurley, it appears that the band, who spent the last decade releasing exceedingly worse and worse records under the guise of self-parody and irony, have remembered that having a. quality album is more than suckering in people with massive singles like Pork and Beans and If You're Wondering If I Want To I Want To. Make Believe, The Red Album, and Raditude made it seem like the mid-nineties glory days of Weezer were. When Weezer announced their new album, Hurley, was named after a character from the TV series Lost, some fans complained the band had sold out. The truth, however, may upset fans even more. Hurley, Weezer's guitarist has revealed, is not, in fact, named after the fictional character it's named after a multinational clothing brand. According to Brian Bell, surfwear company Hurley International was funding the record at the beginning of the process. We actually did some sort of advertisement , he said in an interview at the Mile High festival via Exclai. Hurley album. Just better. Hurley debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 with 45,000 units sold, making it Weezer's sixth top 10 album, as well as the band's sixth top 10 album in a row. Despite peaking higher than Raditude, Hurley sold 21,000 fewer units in its first week than the former. During its second week of. Weezer Format: Audio CD. Verified Purchase. Weezer released its eighth record Hurley in 2010. This marked the third album in three years for the band, and the quality and reception of the record definitely mirrors that. This album is more than likely bemoaned as the worst record that Weezer have ever released, and that only die-hard Weezer fans could find the record enjoyable. In some ways this is true, and some ways not so much. The idea of outside writers and a more modern-styled rock production initially turned me off from buying this album. Cuomo claims that the Hurley album doesnt feature any songs inspired by Lost, but I. Coincidence, you say Nay Surely this must be Synchronicity Perhaps Hurley is actually an elaborate concept album devoted to imagining Hurleys years as Island guardianCuomo claims that the Hurley album doesnt feature any songs inspired by Lost, but I dont know if hes telling the truth. I believe Weezer is merely acknowledging and returning the appreciative homage that Lost was paying to Weezer in the show itself. Coincidence, you say Nay Surely this must be Synchronicity Perhaps Hurley is actually an elaborate concept album devoted to imagining Hurleys years as Island guardian. Okay, I got a little wonky on the Lost theory Hash Pipe there. Though I kinda like my concept album idea. Suffice to say, Im looking forward to the new Weezer disc just a little more than I already was
